The New York Premier League ....... Wait a minute ! Did we see correctly ?  New York Premier League...  Yes, folks!  You read it correctly!  The NY Premier League has been inaugurated in the Big Apple. Be prepared to look at some exciting cricket in the weeks ahead.

We heard of  plans to create the English Premier League, the idea of an Australian Premier League was kicked around, even a venture in South Africa. None of these materialized. However, talks and planning for the NY Premier League came into fruition and the first Twenty/20 game in the new league was played at the new cricket stadium,  80th Street and Seaview Avenue, Brooklyn, on Saturday, July 25th, 2009.

SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE PLAYERS' DISSENT TOWARDS UMPIRES PDF Print E-mail

The only sure thing about change in the world is change itself. Changes are happening all around us each minute, each second of the day. The earth is revolving and rotating at the same time. It is not in identical position for any two second. It always changes position. In the winter solstice we put on several layers of clothing to keep warm. We shovel snow when the white stuff falls. In the autumn solstice the green vegetation gives way to grayness and seeming barrenness. In the summer solstice we put on our skimpier clothing in order feel cool. Get my point! There is change going on all the time around us.

ICC UNDER - 15 TOURNAMENT CANADA 2009 AMERICAS' CHAMPIONS PDF Print E-mail
Written by SAM SOOPPERSAUD

For the second time in a row Canada became the Americas' ICC Under - 15 Champions when they easily defeated the USA on Saturday, August 22,  at Gateway Cricket Facility, in Brooklyn, New York. It was a low scoring match one in which Canada had the upper hand throughout the entire game. Again, like in the other games which the USA played, their fielding was not up to standard. Their batting failed and their bowling lost that "zip' which was there in  their other games.  The USA did not "rise to the occasion' and as a result their northern neighbors got the better of them. Rain had fallen the previous day and the outfield was wet. The playing strip had also gotten some water before it was covered.  The start of play was delayed so that the playing area could dry out. About an hour after the scheduled start of play the umpires deemed the conditions favorable and the match started about 11:10. A.M.

ICC UNDER - 15 TOURNAMENT RAIN WASHED OUT PLAY IN CRUCIAL MATCH PDF Print E-mail
Written by SAM SOOPPERSAUD
Friday, 21 August 2009 00:00
Heavy rain on Friday, August 21, 2009, caused a stoppage, and eventually, the abandonment of the fifth game of the ICC Under-15 Tournament, played at Gateway Cricket Facility, Brooklyn, New York.  This was a crucial match for both teams. Bermuda was in a "do or die" situation. Had there been a result today either team would have tied with USA with two wins apiece.  With heavy rain in the forecast for tomorrow and a likelihood of another washout, it would have meant that, at the conclusion of the tournament, two teams would have been tied with two wins each. Talking to some officials, I was  informed that, should it comes down to this scenario, then the championship will be determined on the net run rate. There being a no-result today meant in fact that  Bermuda is "on their way home", out of contention for the winner's trophy, having won only one game in their previous three matches.

A recap the results in the games played so far in this series.
Monday 8/17 - Bermuda lost to USA in the first game of the tournament.
Tuesday 8/18 - Bermuda steamrolled over Canada
Wednesday 8/19 - Canada defeated USA
Thursday 8/20 - USA took the honors from Bermuda
Friday 8/21 -   Bermuda met Canada, rain washed out play, no result.

Overall standings:

USA - 2 wins  1 loss  1 game to play.
Bermuda  - 1 win  2 losses  all 4 games played.
 Canada -  1 win   1 1oss   1 game to play.

ICC UNDER - 15 TOURNAMENT CANADA PERSEVERE TO DEFEAT USA PDF Print E-mail

An invaluable and unbroken eight wicket partnership pulled Canada out of a hole and put them in a commanding position, later proven to be a winning one, when they met USA in the third game of the ICC Under - 15 Tournament, which is being staged at the Gateway Cricket Facility, in Brooklyn, New York.  As the saying goes; something like this; the race goes not to the swiftest but to him who endures to the end. This is exactly what Canada did. They persevered to the end of their allotted 40 overs. With wickets  falling in succession they did not capitulate. They resorted to damage control  which ultimately resulted in them seizing the initiative away from the USA and eventually winning the match. Team USA assisted in this rebuilding process by grounding at least three vital catches, two during the crucial eight wicket partnership. Their ground fielding needs to be improved drastically.
