INDOOR CRICKET LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
COMBINE SIX’S UPSET STAR STUDDED GLOBAL WHILE GALAXY CC MADE LIGHT WORK OF THE DEPLETED MUMBAI XPRESS

Galaxy and Combine Six’s won their semi-finals matches in the Indoor Cricket USA 2008-09 Winter Tournament. These matches, which were played last week-end, resulted in Combine Six defeating the powerful Global team, which played unbeaten in the preliminary rounds to lead the points standing while Galaxy CC cruised by the depleted Mumbai Express team.

The Championship game will be played on Sunday, January 25th at ICUSA’s Facility in Morristown, New Jersey. Play starts at 12.30 p.m. The Finals will be preceded by the tournament’s All Star game, which begins at 11.00 a.m. The presentation ceremony will conclude the tournament at the end of the Finals.

In the semi finals the favorite Global, which was the 2007 finalist, failed to rise to the occasion and suffered an upset defeat by the Combine Six’s team led by Qayaam. Batting first Global got off to their worst start in the competition with their openers Mukesh Sookram & Cameron Mirza scoring a meager 15 runs in their allotted overs. While their other batting pairs, which included, West Indies player Neil McGarrel, US under 19 player Romeno Deane, Sean Stanslaus, and Jaideep Reddy tried to repair the damage the innings closed with a mere 101 runs which was not sufficient for the batsmen of Combine Six which included Qayaam Farrouq and such USA players as Nandalall, US-19 player Andre Kirton, Wicket keeping sensation Prashad Mahadeo, Keon Lake and India born Suresh Ramani. Global fielding was razor-sharp with Jaideep affecting a brilliant run out with a direct hit. However, their bowlers were not as steady, giving away too many wides and allowing their opponents to score 124 to earn a place in the finals.

In the other semi finals between Galaxy CC and Mumbai Xpress, an exciting match was expected since, their first encounter a month ago in the preliminary rounds ended in a tie and the contest had to be settled in a first of its kind bowl-out in the indoor format. However the Mumbai Express team was depleted for this important match. Three of their leading players had gone to India to visit their families and so the team had to include players who were making their debut in this form of the game. Galaxy was clinical in this game, dismissing Mumbai Express for 89 which they responded to with 128 and earned them a place in the Finals.

An exciting final is anticipated and the All Stars game is also expected to be entertaining, with spectators and ICUSA’s special invited guests enjoying themselves.

The ‘All Stars” game will feature the following players: Neil McGarrel, Jaideep Reddy, Makesh Sookram, Cameron Mirza, Rajesh Bisnauth, Angelo Gonzales, Ryan Persaud, Mital Patel, Abhishek Pittisapu, Vijay Katkiri, Ankit, and Vishrut Pathak.
